If you are like me, you were surprised that Apple even included quasi Exchange 2003 email support on the Iphone. Nonetheless, we will thank Apple for what they have given us. GO team!
Anyways, this post will walk you through how to setup your Exchange 2003 to have IMAP4 and SMTP support so end-users using an iPhone or other devices that support those protocols.

I was reading the newspaper this morning [yeah, i wake up super early.. read 5:30am] and found out that I will no longer be able to purchase “The Office” or “Heroes” episodes via iTunes and watch them “easily” on my iPhone come December of this year
Why? Money, money, money….. money! Thank you Donald Trump for instilling that song into our heads again.
Apparently, NBC has decided they aren’t taking enough money to the bank with their programing like “Passions” and may not renew the contract because of Apple’s control on trying to keep the price structure simple. NBC is not a happy camper
Fact: 40% of iTunes content downloaded from TV shows are from NBC
Fact: Passions is listed as the last TV show in NBC’s iTunes store
Opinion: Heroes was the one of the best new and original shows on TV last season
My thoughts: NBC should renew the contract despite the money concerns. If you want your viewership to continue to rise even more, make your programs more accessible to everyone out there. Let’s face it, a lot more people use iTunes than any other form of media integration software out there…
Let it be known that if NBC does decide to pull the plug, I am still going to find other “ways” of watching my NBC shows on an iPhone..
Edit #1: Apparently NBC wanted $4.99 for a TV show, vs. the standard $1.99 price that ABC, CBS, FOX and the CW has already accepted for the following season. Greedy bastards!

This time, I’m calling the shots before the many rumor leaks coming up this weekend.
So iLounge, MacInsider, TUAW and many others in the blogging community already received fliers for this special event on Sept. 5th, a day after Labor Day. Also it’s pretty obvious that the main things will be covered will be an iPod refresh since the 5th gen iPod has not been refreshed since late 2005. With the release of the iPhone, and the great human touch jesters that made the iPhone unique from the other manufacters, it’s pretty obvious that “touch” interface and iPhone like video capabilities will be available in the 6th generation iPod.
Also the recent leak of the iPod Nano “phat” in a flower shaped image was taken down by various sites like 9to5mac, Engadget, and Gizmodo via Apple lawyers. Seems like these are pretty much slamdunks, but what else does Apple have up it’s sleeve.
Let’s put these this event into some perspective:
- Holiday season is around the corner. In typical Apple fashion, an Ipod refresh would be a great way to keep consumers coming into the Apple store and checking them out. In effect, causing another round of “halo” effects for the Apple stores and the products. [Halo effect #2 was in effect when the iPhone was introduced. This caused a lot more foot traffic into the store. In turn, more traffic and more purchases of iPhones, Mac’s (both desktop and laptops) and other accessories]
- It’s being held in San Francisco Moscone West. The City is a much bigger venue than the Cupertino Town Hall where the last event was. Money is on something “big” is going to be dropped.
- Coverflow + Touch interface of iPhone = iPod 6th gen touch.
Last but not least, are my predictions:
- iPod 6th Gen with Touch interface. Will look like the iPhone, but will have a mirror finish on the back. Will not have any buttons on the front. Will have a full screen touch surface front (unlike the iPhone which has a place for a button and earpiece). Will have a lock button on top and a dock connector on the bottom. Widescreen video capabilities. Will have A2DP Bluetooth support.
Price: $249 for 60gb. $349 for 100gb
- iPod Nano with Touch interface. Will resemble the Creative Zen. Will come in many colours. Still look like a nano, but even more thinner since it is wider.
Price: $149 for 8gb and $249 for 16gb.
- Bluetooth headphones. This will be compatible with the new iPods and also the iPhone.
Price: $149
- Itunes will be updated to 7.4 to accommodate the new iPod and features.
- iPhone will get a firmware update to 1.1.0. Will include iChat AIM client support, widget support and A2DP support.
- A huge Beatles annoucement. Maybe all their music videos, hidden interviews, and songs on a 6th Gen iPod (following the U2’s infamous success on the U2 iPod)
Price: $100+ more than iPod 6th gen
Here is a list of things I do NOT like about the iPhone after using it for a month
SAFARI:
- Still prone to crashes with 3+ browsers open. Sites like evite.com and techbargains.com still crash from time to time
- The keyboard in horizontal mode fills up 60% of the screen
- Flash, where is my “full browser” Apple?
SMS:
- Why can’t you SMS more than 1 person at a time?
- No timestamps after the first conversation started
CALENDAR:
- Can’t sync to .Mac
- Interface is not as intuitive as it can be
CAMERA:
- Video recording?
- Slow camera snaps
YOUTUBE:
- Super slow over EDGE.
- Not H.264 quality videos
MAIL:
- Can’t move messages between folders
IPHONE:
- Can’t adjust volume through headset
- Can only skip a song ahead, no rewind
- Headphones is teh suck!
NOTES:
- Can’t import notes off the iPhone
Guess thats’ all I can think of for now. When I can think of more, I’ll definately be writing more. Stay tuned to the next post where I share some of the :)’s of the iPhone
