I was reading the newspaper this morning [yeah, i wake up super early.. read 5:30am] and found out that I will no longer be able to purchase “The Office” or “Heroes” episodes via iTunes and watch them “easily” on my iPhone come December of this year
Why? Money, money, money….. money! Thank you Donald Trump for instilling that song into our heads again.
Apparently, NBC has decided they aren’t taking enough money to the bank with their programing like “Passions” and may not renew the contract because of Apple’s control on trying to keep the price structure simple. NBC is not a happy camper
Fact: 40% of iTunes content downloaded from TV shows are from NBC
Fact: Passions is listed as the last TV show in NBC’s iTunes store
Opinion: Heroes was the one of the best new and original shows on TV last season
My thoughts: NBC should renew the contract despite the money concerns. If you want your viewership to continue to rise even more, make your programs more accessible to everyone out there. Let’s face it, a lot more people use iTunes than any other form of media integration software out there…
Let it be known that if NBC does decide to pull the plug, I am still going to find other “ways” of watching my NBC shows on an iPhone..
Edit #1: Apparently NBC wanted $4.99 for a TV show, vs. the standard $1.99 price that ABC, CBS, FOX and the CW has already accepted for the following season. Greedy bastards!
